So I have installed the os x dans guardian and the unix software that goes with it (squid). I tried to configure the ports, lost my internet connection, reset them and got it back. There is supposed to be a preference pane in os x after installation. Not there. I REALLY need to install dans guardian to block my daughter from accessing sites she sometimes visits (yes THOSE sites, and before you ask, the computer is in a public room but I am not always there to watch over her). But I cannot for the life of me get it working. I have done google searches and subscribed to the groups, still no luck. I need to put this on a home based g4 with a lynksis router and cable modem. From what I can tell this is the only "filtering software" out there. All of the other parentel control web software requires that you type in sites they can or cannot visit. Supposedly this one is based on keywords, and parental ratings. Can anyone either show me how to install and configue dans gaurdian in plain english, or suggest an alternative web filtering software? Thanks

I tried Dans/Squid and didn't have any luck either.
Here is another solution that comes with a 15 day free trial.
This should solve the problem:

Thanks pubguy for the info...Feedback on safe eyes on versiontracker is pretty negative, and the filters apparently runs through their server. I would prefer a standalone app. I would happily pay $50 for the software, but I don't want to rely on someone elses uptime. Ya know? What if she has a paper due tomorrow and the servers are down? Windows even has a simple version of a content filter built-in, dont know how well it works, but I can't believe this is such a pain in the ass for "the computer for the rest of us". DG is supposed to be THE A # 1 filter software, someone surely has to know how to make it work on OS X
