I have been running iTunes with the majority of my music on a network drive, and just my purchased music on the PC in the iTunes Music folder. I added a CD to my collection this morning and noticed that a lot of my music had the dreaded "!" of doom by their names, so I started looking at what was going on. I'd apparently made a few changes to the network path, so a lot of songs were just not being found where iTunes expected them. No problem-I'll just delete them (almost all of my ripped songs in fact) and add the whole music library folder from the network drive, just like I've done in the past.
NOPE. It will add a few artists and then quit. I wonder if there's some oddity about using a networked drive with iTunes that I've never heard of. Anyway, I think it would be a good idea for me to trash iTunes and reinstall it. What should I back up before I do this? Is there a "preferred method" or any major pitfalls I should know about first?
