Not sure if any of you have heard of this extension - but it breaks iTunes 7.0 - music doesn't play.
I uninstalled OSS 3D using the uninstaller it came with, iTunes 7.0 now works great.

Good because OSS 3D is a **** CPU hog eating app even when NOT playing songs.
I did tests and wrote the developers and they confirmed it and said it is normal.
If you want iTunes to use 20% of a Dual CPU (Intel or PPC) even if it is doing NOTHING... OSS 3D is the app for you.

I wondered why my computer is far far more responsive after uninstalling! thanks for the comment! I should be more careful about the apps I install really.

Have you tried setting a lower nice value on this application? This will force it to consume less CPU:
nice -n 20 open /path/to/application
