I live in Germany and would like to know what the features are of the downloaded movies. Is the quality as good or better than the HD trailers at 640 x 480? How many audio channels are offered? Just stereo would be unfortunate, since home movie enthusiasts really want 5.1+ channels. Also, are there multiple audio tracks (English, Spanish, French)? Are there any of the extra content components that one gets on a DVD?

If the download was really as good as the DVD and had at least the same features, then I would switch. But, I already know about the DRM restrictions, which will restrict anyone from travelling anywhere and continuing to watch a movie (or listen to music from the iTunes store).

Probably worse quality due to the simpler profile: baseline low-complexity for movies vs baseline for trailers
Maybe a lower bitrate too.

Apple says the quality is "near DVD". That means it's worse. I can not download a movie too, but I would be seriously surprised of there were multiple language tracks or any extras.

The DRM for movies in iTS is very restrictive in my opinion, but it does not restrict you in travelling.

Please execuse me for going off topic. I like the idea of keeping all the music and movie in one location like in iTune and having the ability to play the movie through iTV in the future. iTunes allows you to copy your cds to the iTune library. Does it allow you to copy or import dvds into the library. We have a large collection of DVDs and I don't feel like buying the same movies just so that I have the movies in iTunes to play through iTV.

iTunes doesn't rip DVDs. You need to get something like HandBrake and encode them to MP4 H.264 yourself.

I did read that the movies will be Dolby Surround Audio. Does anyone know much about this and how it compares to other formates (e.g. DTS)?

I also have a question: Jobs said the movies would have Surround Sound. Is it AC3-Sound? Does iTunes play Dolby Digital sound through the optical audio out port?

Could someone who already bought a movie be so kind and tell me that? Thank you!
