So...I just got my new Mac Pro + 23" ACD, and I love them. Still learning the "workstation" through and through and getting it configured.
I've setup mail.app with all my accounts, and synced it with .Mac and my PowerBook. However, it's not pulling all the messages off my accounts. I have some 200+ messages in my gmail account, but it's only showing 2 from November, 2005. Any ideas about what I've done wrong and how I can get the app to see the other messages?
Thanks for any help, and I'll be back with a writeup of my impressions of the Mac Pro as soon as I get everything working.

It might have something to do with GMail being a POP account. On your other Mac, in Mail, did you always have the preferences set to leave messages on the Server indefinitely? If not, then you might not be able to download them from GMail because they simply aren't there anymore and are only on the hard drive of your other Mac. IOW, you'll probably have to physically import them.

POP: e-mail is managed on your personal computer.
IMAP: e-mail is managed on the mail-server.
If GMail is POP, then you can't get your older mail with your new Mac because they are managed on your PowerBook. If you want to access a mail account from multiple computers you need an IMAP-account like .Mac-mail.

Thanks, guys. I did have the PB set to leave the messages on the server. I can check my Gmail account through web access, and they're all there...still on the server. I can't figure out why the Mac Pro will only grab those two messages from November...? Anyone? Thanks!

Go into your Gmail Forwarding and POP settings and set POP to "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)". This will allow you to download everything on your Mac Pro, but I believe it will also cause it to redownload on your PowerBook.

Thank you very much! That worked. And now, I'm realizing that I really, really need to clean out my inbox.
