I'm wondering if I can record something from a live .ram stream from the public radio (RNE) and put it on an iPod to listen to. I suppose it would have to be transcoded to mp3 or m4a, but yeah. That's basically what I'm looking for.

Anyone have a basic idea of how to do this in a relatively painless way? Other than recording the stream as AIFF in an audio capture app and encoding the whole thing as mpeg audio?

The stream is just 17kbps and an AIFF is something huge if recorded for hours, like I'd like to do. Anyway, any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!!

I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

There sure is - check this little app out:

Stream Recorder 1.0 - MacUpdate

Is a bit of a pain sometimes to get it working, but when it des it will do what you want. It will rip the strean into iTunes for you, and from there its easy to get it onto your iPod
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Thank you very much for that recommendation! That is precisely what I am looking for

Or: AudioHijack and Wiretap. Both will give you considerably more control, but aren't free.
