I reinstalled OS X using the disc which came with my MBP and made an XP partition, just in case.

However, now I feel that I don't want to install Windows XP on my machine after all.

But the only program I've seen which can repartition (intel guid?) without loosing data is Boot Camp from Apple, but when I try to restore my main drive to one partition, the computer just reboots but doesn't do anything.

My XP drive is still there. Can anyone help me to get rid of it?

I've done it three times now. Every time it has said that it has removed it, it reboots and every time the XP partition pops up on my desktop again and seems to be fully intact.

Well, normally, repartitioning wipes all of the contents of both volumes, right? And I'd like to keep the conents of my OS X volume.

There is no built-in method to change partitions. I guess that's why this thread has been moved to the Applications forum. You need a third-party software to do it. Bootcamp might not be able to remove the partition if you didn't use it to create it. Or it just has a bug. It's beta-software.

It's cheapest to backup your data to another drive, repartition with Disk Utility, then reinstall everything and restore the data from your backup.

wataru was trying to point out that "Loose" is the opposite of "tight."

Download just about any live Linux cd. They all have some kind of disc partioner. I suggest GParted. Boots to a graphical environment, very easy to use.

And that supports live resizing of HFS formatted partitions? I seriously doubt it, but would be thrilled to hear it's that easy.

If you're willing to spend some cash, give iPartition a try. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard good things and I've been considering buying it. Just haven't had the need yet.
