My problem is that sometimes when I open Microsoft office 2004 while I'm connected to the internet, it says that the serial key is already being used, and the application shuts down. This is because my family bought one copy of Office 2004 and i'm sharing the same serial with a few family members, namely my brothers who are also in college.

My question: is there any way that I can block Office 2004 from connecting to the internet so that it doesn't log the serial?

...I don't think Office connects to the internet to log your serial with Microsoft.

It's detecting someone using Office on your local network, it's not talking over the internet.

Yes, you can block the communication ports on your network from which Microsoft Office looks to communicate, but I don't know what those are.

Also, even though Office is gosh darn expensive, we don't really support piracy on this board (I know it's your family, but still...)

If it's really a problem, the student edition of Offices allows 3 people to use it at once iirc.

And it's only $150. That is pretty cheap per license.

Unless you bought the student version of Office, you are violating the user agreement with Microsoft by installing it on multiple computers.

And since your brothers (and you?) are in college, they/you should check with your school to find out whether there's a Campus Level Agreement with MS-I can get Office for about $20 from my school's book store-a full copy all my own that's LEGAL.

So we won't help you figure out how to get around Microsoft's anti-piracy technology, but we will help you find the best deal of LEGAL software to solve your problem.
