64 bit apps will most likely have a 32bt version.

i.e. if a 64bit version of Photoshop arrives, it will more than likely (read: 100%) also have a 32bit version. In the same way Universal Binaries work on PPC and Intel, you also have 64 and 32bit apps in one easy-to-click single app bundle
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

No, it doesn't.

64 bit apps won't run on 32 bit hardware. Period.

If you have a 32 bit version of the same app, yes, that will obviously run.

That's a pretty horrible title for this thread too. Our rules require that thread titles be both descriptive and informative. Your title is neither. In the future, think about what readers will think when reading your title and make it easier on them by telling them just what you're interested in.

And think about it: why WOULD 64 bit apps work on any 32 bit machine?

64-bit code won't run on a 32-bit Mac. But almost no apps are 64-bit only.

Well, the newest XCode can make 4-arch universals that contain 32/64-bit for both PPC and x86, so in a way you're correct...

I'm not surprised, but I'm curious whether they'll differentiate.

They aren't differentiating between them, no.
