Since the last Quicktime update, I am no longer able to play my .swf files. How did that happen? What got changed so drastically?

They turned off its ability to play embedded flash files. Check the system QuickTime preferences to turn it back on.

Go to Quicktime Preferences>Advanced and select the Enable Flash option. It is now turned off by default:

Great, thanks. Why turn it off, anyway? Why not just copy my settings for the previous version?

It was turned off because of a security hole, and because QuickTime's Flash playback is antiquated (only supporting version 6 files, IIRC).
This was fairly widely documented and discussed on Mac tech sites.

A security hole they never clarified and which the tech base document describing how to turn Flash playback back on didn't mention. Really pissed off people who use QT with embedded flash for their websites.

Is iSwiff more secure than Quicktime? Does it play more versions? The only .swf files I have downloaded play well with both.
