I just purchased a new iMac core duo and I'm ecstatic with it, with the exception of the following problem. In both Safari and Firefox, I cannot connect to certain specific sites for no reason. I CAN connect to these same websites using the Windows laptop in our household with no problems, so I know it's not the ISP. Any ideas? My guess is it's some firewall or proxy config thing on the Mac since Firefox and Safari are both having the same problems.

The message I receive is: Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxxx.xxxxx.com -

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Have you done what it suggests? Are any other apps able to access the internet?

I have done what the error message suggests and the same specific sites still do not work for no known reason. I can access the sites from the same network using Windows machines......

Have you tried keeping your firewall/proxy disabled while you try? A reboot is worth a try too.
