I have an Exchange Server which also functions as an IMAP server. I cannot get mail to connect this server using the IMAP protocol. Thunderbird on the same machine connects to this exchange server just fine using IMAP. And Mail does not have problem connecting to other IMAP servers. Any idea on where I can look to troubleshoot?

Go to

System preferences > networking > your built-in ethernet or airport > proxies

and make sure the SOCKS proxy is unchecked.

That is unchecked.

Weird thing is that Thunderbird connects to this IMAP server just fine- its just Mail thats not connecting.

Another thing to note is that Mail connects just fine to other IMAP servers!

Yea but remember that Thunderbird/Firefox doesnt adopt system-wide prefs like Mail does. So look beyond Mail for the culprit to your problem.
