Every time I connect my digital camera (Canon S3) or my PSP, iPhoto automatically opens, and frankly it's getting old having to close it five times a day. I've searched this on Google, but all I found out was to change some settings in "Image Capture", which seems to be a 10.3 feature, since I can't find it on my system. So, is there any missing setting or program that I don't know about to change this?

So you don't have "Image Capture" under your Applications folder? Have you searched your system for it?

Image Capture is an app that is installed by default on Tiger 10.4. Do a Spotlight search for it or look in your Apps folder.

Launch it.

Go to Preferences. You will see an option there to change this behavior.

Nope, Image Capture is the app you'd use to change that behavior. There may be something else out there. Short of getting into editing plist files, that is. Which file would house that I have no idea.

I always wondered why this was never a part of System Preferences. CDs and DVDs, Bluetooth, printers, monitors, audio devices, etc. all have a pane in System Preferences that will give access to their settings, but no cameras.

I did a search for it, and all I get that seems relevant are two plists and a folder called "Image Capture. However, it has two subfolders in it: "Devices", which has "Epson Scanner" in it, and "TWAIN data Sources", which has nothing in it. And there's nothing else. No program, nothing.

If you don't see it in your Applications folder, then it either got deleted by accident, or something went wrong with your install. It should have been on your system by default.

Edit: You can use Pacifist to extract it from your install CD.

Thank CharlesS. our own board member, who wrote that fine program.
