Ok every time I open Word and create a new blank document I get this:



I tried deleting the prefs yet to no avail

My guess would be that you've accidentally saved it as your normal.dot template. Try deleting the Normal template file in your ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder.

Did you get a message saying something along the lines of "Word cannot save Normal.dot?" Do what JKT suggests, quit Word, delete the Normal.dot template. A new template will be created when you relaunch Word.

If the Normal.dot file is not in your Microsoft Data Folder, then the error is not a corrupt template. You have a permissions problem that prevented Word from using the template. Run Disk Utility, Repair Permissions.
