Hi All,

This is a problem that has been bugging me for a few months now (through multiple versions of Safari and OSX).

I frequent a particular photography forum (http://www.dpreview.com/forums/) and often load multiple threads into tabs. Often I don't manage to finish reading everything before I have to finally go to bed, and so I leave Safari open (in hopes of picking up my reading in the morning).

This has become an exercise in frustration now, because I always return in the morning to find that Safari has crashed.

This happens consistently on my G5 and 12" PowerBook. Safari is at present at 2.0.4, and both computers are running OSX 10.4.7 (note: I was getting this behaviour at least one OSX 10.4 version ago, perhaps two).

The only reason I mention the DPReview forums is that this is the site that I invariably leave running. If I leave Safari open, but with no sites loaded, it doesn't crash (I haven't tested with any other sites). DPReview runs a advertising banner (usually animated, sometimes gif, sometimes Flash), perhaps this could be some memory leak? I dunno. There is also lots of Javascript (natch!)

Whatever the problem is, it takes several hours to happen because Safari has never crashed while I was at the computer.

I haven't saved a crash log, but I'm sure I can post one tomorrow (once Safari crashes again), if anybody thinks that that might be useful.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to avoid this? (I was using Firefox for a while, but I prefer some of the Safari functionality and so switched back).

Chas
