Hi all,
My .mac certs stopped working a while ago (I think this was part of a system wide malfunction), so I created a new .Mac certificate. It works great for iChat but I can no longer encrypt or sign emails. I started looking at the two certs in Keychain and the old one specifically states that it can be used for Email Protection. The new one doesn't mention anything of the sort.

Old key:
Purpose #2 Email Protection ( 1 3 6 1 5 5 7 3 4 )

Is there any way to get a new key that allows email protection or is just up to Apple? When did they stop issuing keys for email? I used to have a Thawte key, but I'd prefer to keep things simple if possible.

Apparently, Apple has stopped allowing email protection with their certs.

If you are looking for S/MIME email certs, Thawte provides them for free. They aren't terribly secure though, since anyone can request them for any address. All they really indicate is that "somebody created this cert".

Wow, I never even knew .Mac offered certificates, and I have been on .Mac since before it was .Mac. Too bad that they've removed the feature.

Wow, I never knew about this either. I would have loved to have used this. Too bad it's gone.
