How do you get rid of the bullets in front of each line in Omni-Outliner? How do you stop it from putting the word "Topic" at the top? Is there any way of getting it to save a file in .rtf format without trashing it completely?

Hmm, I think the bullets are there to stay -- they're the drag handles. You can print without them, though -- select the OmniOutliner print settings, and uncheck "Print row handles."
You can delete the word Topic, or make your own template. Or View:Show Column Titles:Never
What precisely is the problem with the RTF files?

I was trying to make a sort of data table, but without making columns the usual way because I wanted some columns to have sub-columns & I could not figure out a way to do that. When I saved the file as .rtf and then loaded it, it was messed up, with an extra column on the right and all the data below the title in it. The word "Topic" was back at the top of the document.

Hi there,
First, OO is DA BOMB!
The bullets can be removed via the Inspector Palette. You select the rows, either manually or all at once if they all belong to one style. Then, in the Inspector Palette, find the Row attributes palette. Select either Remove handles or (my favorite) Show only on mouse-over, where the the bullets will show up only if you hover your mouse over it.
For exporting to RTF, go to the preferences under RTF export and simply delete the bullets, triangles etc and they won't show up when you export to RTF. The RTF file will look just like you wrote it in TextEdit or something like that.

Oh sorry, almost forgot!
"Topic" is a column title. I can't remember which menu (i think it's 'format') find where it says Columns - Column titles, and select 'don't show' or something like that. You can also select 'show only when multiple columns'
Hope this helps.

You can also just double click on 'Topic' and type in something else if you prefer.
OO is one of the most flexible applications that I've ever used. I love it !

If I want a good word processor, I should get Open Office, then?
