I am experiencing some frustration in trying to use my Agfa DuoScan f40 scannner (FireWire) with my PPC iBook G4. The latest version of the bundled software, Fotolook 3.6 X, is adequate (when it works) but it is unbelievably crash-o-rific! Every few scans it seems causes the application to "quit unexpectedly". What on earth is going on with this?

I've considered switching to VueScan, but at $50/$80 it's rather expensive for my very basic needs. Are there any alternatives?

Does your scanner have TWAIN drivers? If so you can try ImageCapture or GraphicConverter. My HP scanner takes a crap if I try to use it with TWAIN.
