When dealing with archives, there is The Unarchiver to unarchive many types of archives. Is there some kind of equivalent app for archiving?

The Finder can create zip files with the Archive menu item. I'm not aware of anything else built in to do any other types that has a GUI. tar, gz, bz2 can all be created on the command line. As for third party there is of course StuffIt. I'm not sure if there are any free StuffIt like apps.
