Dear all,

I'm just purchasing a digital camcorder. I'm mainly going to use it with my parents' G5 iMac. However, my own computer is a 500MHz iBook G3 - obviously not the fastest computer yet devised. It did, though, come bundled with iMovie. Unfortunately I removed iMovie (2.0 I think) when saving space while I still had a 10GB HD, rather than the 80GB HD that I have since installed.
I am going to reinstall iMovie, needless to say through the appropriate legal channels. I was wondering if anyone could recommend the version I should install? I'm sure iMovie HD on this thing would be pointless. Perhaps v.3.0 would be worthwhile though? Or should I simply stick with v.2.0? I have 640MB of RAM, but of course I am still stuck with the 500MHz processor, the 66MHz system bus and the 8MB graphics card. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Will

It would help if we knew what version of Mac OS you were running as you will need later versions of OS X to run later versions of iMovie. Also, what is the maximum resolution of your screen? I don't recall which version of iMovie it was, but they put a limit on the minimum resolution screen it could run on (1024x768) at that version.

FWIW, whichever version preceded iMovieHD from iLife'05 runs fine on an iMac G3 400Mhz.

Thanks, that's good to hear. I'm running the latest version of Tiger (10.4.8), and my screen runs native at 1024x768 so that shouldn't be a problem.
