i have a mini DV cam that shoots 16:9 non HD footage...i am trying to import it into FCP and don't know what FCP settings to set it to...DV NTSC is 4:3 isn't it? And if I try HD, it won't work because the source is not HD...
what would be the proper setting? thanks!

you use ntsc 4:3 but set it to anamorphic.
however, some mini dv cams dont do true 16:9
they can either do true, or they stretch, crop, or add black bars to the top and bottom of the picture.
if you own a canon, i am 99.89% sure that it is doing true widescreen, considering its a more recent models.

panasonic pgs 300...?
i found the proper settings...but my issue now is a problem with my timecode. we accidently left some blank footage between takes on our tape and the blank footage has no timecode. the camera restarted the timecode when the new recording began, so the logging process is all screwed up. i need to figure out a way to 'force capture' the tape's contents, then i will go in and make subclips afterwards...what do i do?
thanks, adam

If I'm understanding your capturing workflow properly...you're attempting to batch capture your footage but because of the timecode breaks in the tape, capture is failing?
In that case, I would recommend you use the "capture now" feature. Make sure that in your "User Preferences" that you have the following settings:
"Report dropped frames during playback" = unchecked
"Abort ETT/PTV on dropped frames" = unchecked
"Abort capture on dropped frames" = unchecked
"On timecode break" = Make New Clip
Once you capture using "capture now", you can then log your clips using subclips. (command-U)

thanks mrt, my professor told me to do the same and it worked fine. the intro for my video looks rather nice.
i just need to move my files over to my FW400 HD, because they are on my USB2 HD now since the dvcam took up my FW400 port during importing...
