Hi,

Does anyone know why Acrobat Reader 5.0 is the version that automatically opens even though I've downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 6.0, 7.0
and 7.0.8?--several times, over and over.

Please help as I'm required by law to submit some forms electronically and I'm caught in a loop that won't let me get this done.

When I click on to download the "PDF" for the form I need, Acrobat Reader 5.0 opens but with a message box that says I must download a newer version. Then all these boxes open, one after another, each with a newer version (5.1, 6.0, 6.1) and I click each one saying yest give me the latest version until finally I get to the Adobe website. I've downloaded the latest versions several times, but can not get 7.0.8 to be the default reader.

The form I must file insists on my using Adobe 7.0.

I've put Acrobat 5.0 in the trash, but it still opens.

Why is one called Acrobat Reader (5.0) and the others called Adobe Reader( 6.0 or 7.0)? THAT!! was confusing and didn't help when I was searching on my hardrive for the 5.0!

Could I just get rid of all Adobe products and install the latest Adobe Reader?

Thanks so much. Please, I need to stay legal.

go to your applications folder and move the acrobat 5, 6 and any older ones to the trash and empty it, try downloading the PDF again and it should open in 7

a user could also point to the PDF file, right-click (or apple-click) on the PDF file, and a drop-down contextual menu should give you the choice to "open with". The user would select that option, and then navigate to his/her newest and desired version of acrobat.

I was going to say just what rtdunham did because I'd asked something similar to this question about two weeks ago.
