Microsoft Office usually resides in "Microsoft Office v.x" or "Microsoft Office 2004" Is it okay to rename these to Microsoft Office?

You can name it anything you want. However, windows doesn't keep track of where shortcuts point, so certain ones may not work once you rename it. Try it and see. You can always change it back if you have trouble.

Yep. I just tried it and the Word icon in the Doc bounced, (maybe a few more times) and opened Word. I didn't change the name much, just an underscore at the beginning, but that's a change and Word worked. Then I changed it back and it still worked.

Just curious as to why you would want to do this....? Are you just extremely tidy?

I do that all of the time. I rename applications and folders to my choosing and it always works.
