I was under the impression that Aperture 1.5.1 update would support my Canon Rebel XTi CR2 RAW files.. it still gives me the "unsupported format" screen upon selection.

Can someone clarify?

The Aperture 1.5.1 update never claimed to add Rebel XTi support.

The "Digital Camera RAW Support Update" that's linked from the Apple - Aperture page, however, is exactly for that purpose.

As I said, the Aperture 1.5.1 update doesn't add XTi support, it's the Digital Camera RAW Support Update that does.

Any format addition will come through the OS, not Aperture. Aperture does not have any format files, but rely on what QuickTime can process.

Well I don't think that's entirely true, since Aperture has RAW adjustment capability beyond that available in Preview, iPhoto, etc.

Aperture provides tools to modify the effects beyond what Preview and iPhoto do, sure, but the RAW decoding itself is done in the OS.

Install the developer tools and run "Core Image Fun House" on a RAW file and see a bunch of effects you can do on RAW files that you cannot, lo, would never want to, do on your RAW files within Aperture ;-)
