If I have a clip from a song (not knowing what the original song is) and a few full length songs of where I think the clip originated from, is it possible to compare the clip to the songs and find the original song?

to clarify:

have: musicclip1
choices: songA, songB, songC.

is there a search function to find musicclip1 within the song choices?

What do you want to search for?? You can set up 4 tracks to try match the clips, using the sound-spectrum, beat, etc..

I want to find the original song based on the clip, because I would not know the original song. So I am wondering if STP has a way of searching for the clip within a bunch of songs.

Think of it as using spotlight to find the sentence "I like to eat" within a bunch of word documents.

Im not necessarily using 4 tracks, it was just an example.

This is what I tried to find out.
warra says: "Searching for the clip". OK. But on which information is this search based?

sorry to be so confusing.

if a function like this does exist in STP i would not know how it would search, but one way could be searching for a waveform match between the clip and candidate songs. there could be many ways to search for it, im just wondering if such a search feature exists, and if it does, how to use it.

yes i could manually match it up but that would take much longer.
