OK, new to Mac. Sat and ripped several CDs to my iMac. When it ripped them, some of the albums appear normal, all songs together, but some "Best of" cd's seem to have scattered songs all over the place "compilations'" and they do not come up organized like regular albums do.

I just want to have a directory under itunes that will store the rippped album by name. That makes my antiquated method of managing song selections for my Palm mp3 player much more straight forward.

Any advice on what setting to use when ripping would be helpful.

Select all your compilations albums, press cmd-i and make sure Compilation is checked as Yes.

Easiest way to group them temporarily for this is to sort by Date Added.

Thanks for the hint. I tried the date added, but I added 20 cd's the first day.

Well, as long as you didn't rip from multiple burners at once, the cds should still be grouped.

Are you talking about the organization within iTunes, or the folder structure on the hard drive - in your home folder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music ?

You can change the grouping within iTunes by clicking on the column headers - if you sort by artist, it will rip apart the album (in view only, not folder structure). If you click on the "Album" header several times, you can sort "Album by Artist", which will group all compilations together.
Not terribly intuitive, but I was glad to see it worked.
