We just got our internet re-hooked up with the addition of an apple airport express. We decided to hook the printer up to the airport so we can print stuff from the laptop we have upstairs. So once we get it all hooked up and stuff, I go to try and print a page to test it out. When the print window pops up, and I hit print, its says that there are other files that were stopped and are in que. Ok so now heres the problem, I go to the printer application utilities folder, and double cick it to open it. Well every time I go to open it, it will pop up on the navigation bar below for a second, then instantly dissapear. It will not fully open no matter what I try . Please someone help me with this, I would appreciate it so much!

ok so today we bought an HP Photosmart C3100 printer/scanner and I installed everything, and still no recognition from the computer. Now when I click the "Printer Setup" button, it doesn't even do anything. I try printing a page off the internet, and nothing happens. When I check the status of the printer it says its "stopped". Please someone help me, I'm trying to get my business off the ground and I can't do it without a working printer.

Open Console.app from your Applications/Utilities folder and try to launch the printer program. Does it say anything in Console while you do this?

Try trashing the printer preferences (look into ~/Library/Preferences maybe sorted by day and see what they might be, I don't know). Does that help?

Create a new user in System Preferences->Accounts and log into that user. Does the printer work there?

I couldn't find the Console.app in my utilities folder, but I tried the other two and neither worked. Idk how, but the printer setup utility is gone now too! I don't even know how any of this mess started in the first place.... any other suggestions?

Open Disk Utility while it is there and select the drive in the left column. Then click the Info button and check the "S.M.A.R.T.-Status". It should be "verified". If it is something else, then your drive is failing. If it's verified then select the "First Aid" tab and click the "Verify Disk" button. If it fails you need to boot from the system CD and repair the disk until it says it is OK.

If everything above turned out OK and the disk is not the problem, make an Archive & Install of the operating system.

Also: always make sure you have a backup of all your important data!

Check the disk first.

I did, and bolth passed. I have one more question, how to I back up all my important files and applications (such as limewire pro, photshop CS2, etc. etc.)? I know I can write them to a CD-R, I just need to know how to do that.

You don't necessarily need a backup of your applications since you can always reinstall them from their disks. But it's essential that you have a backup of your user data (and don't forget what is in ~/Library like ~/Library/Mail).

In Finder you can do File->New Burn Folder, drag anything you want to write to CD or DVD into there and manually click the Burn button on a regular basis.

You can also use something like Silverkeeper to write a backup to an external disk. Maybe you have a look in one of the threads that specifically discuss backup.
