Always open Preview on external display?

I have my powerbook (soon to be MBP) hooked up to an external display that's rotated by 90 degrees (so 1024x1280 instead of 1280x1024) for easy viewing of A4 documents (I read a lot of journal articles). Whenever I open a PDF with Preview, it always opens on the laptop display. Is there a way to change this behaviour so that it always opens them on the external display, preferably occupying the full screen?
