i also have noticed the memory leak that so many others have experienced, so i looked into the webkit nightly builds. I'm confused though, I download and run webkit but it does nothing for safari, it just opens a new safari window in webkit. Are the two supposed to be integrated somehow, or does using webkit mean ignoring safari?

as the documentation with webkit indicates, both webkit and Safari can be run at the same time. They're different beasts, with webkit using the most up-to-date resources, while Safari runs the original, un-updated Apple stuff.

if the nightlies are always being updated, would it be wise to replace safari with the downloadable webkit?

Safari is only 6.1 MB. That's not gonna save you much space, but keeping it might come in handy sometime. Personally, I've Firefox, Safari, and webkit, just "in case."

the new webkit nightlies are definatly a lot more slick than the current safari.. but i didnt know you could replace your current webkit with the new built version.

The webkit nightlies don't replace Apple's nightlies, those are left intact. That's why you can run both Safari and webkit at the same time. It's slightly confusing to see webkit showing up as your browser in the dock, but the performance is the important improvement.
