[OmniX]

I'm looking for a light-weight, simple word processing / text editing app that has a tabbed interface. Something like MS Word 2004 in 'Notebook Layout' view would be ideal, except with tabs horizontal instead of vertical (or both!), and without all the monstrous microsftly bloat! Or something else that would be great is a TextEdit.app with tab support.

I feel as if there must be some shareware or inexpensive commercial apps out there like this -- does anyone have any helpful suggestions or experiences?

ForgEdit, Smultron and TextMate are the only ones with tabs that I'm aware of.

Not that I'd call any of them simple, they seem to be more targeted at programmers.

There's this older app, Haxial TextEdit, which can open separate (plain text) documents in tabs, but quite frankly, I think it sucks.

iText Express is like a souped up version of Apple's TextEdit, but, alas, it doesn't have tabs.

Who knows, maybe the Leopard version of TextEdit will have tabs?
