Hi,

I have an irritating problem with mail. Approx once a day I have to re-enter my passwords for each account I have. This is a pain - I've had to reduce the amount of email accounts I have because I couldn't enter 14 passwords every day

I've heard this problem is my ISP trying to save bandwidth. That's all very well, but I only check for emails every 30 mins and it still does it.

The real big pain is: where are my passwords going? Adding them to the keychain every day and then it loosing them is a real pain.

Please tell me there is a really easy solution to this!

Thanks for reading this

I occaisionally have the same problem. It is random and doesn't happen that often. I only have 2 of my accounts coming into Mail and it is only ever one at a time that does this, again not very often.

KeyChain isn't losing the passwords. Mail will display the password dialog when there is a communication error as it's trying to check for mail. I occasionally get it (about once a week) with .Mac. All I do is hit Cancel and tell it to check again and it works. Granted this might not work for you, but rest assured KeyChain isn't losing the password.

In other words, you don't need to re-enter the password - just hit cancel and try again later. It is a really poor error message that tells you the wrong information for the wrong error and it is unbelievable that Apple have not corrected this in 5+ years.

ok, thanks guys.

Will just hit the cancel and forget about it.

I'm sure I;ve tried to do this and it takes the accounts "Offline".

Will post if I have any problems.

It will take the account offline. That is the problem - your e-mail account is not accessible online so you see the (incorrect password) error message. The reason why it is offline is not because you have the wrong password (unless you mis-typed it the first time), but because the mail server, for whatever reason, is not responding to the request for messages at that time.

When you try again later, just click the Go Online button in your toolbar (customise your toolbar if you don't have it) or select it from the Mailbox menu.
