safari not downloading files anymore

after i installed and deinstalled speed downloader, safari stopped downloading files by itself.
so if i click on a link with .dmg file - nothing happens at all.

it however downloads if i drag the link into downloads windows myself

i think the problem is that by by click safari thinks it will be picked up by external downloader which is no longer available.

how to bring safari back to its state?

Did you uninstall the download thing properly?

Have a look into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins, see whether it has a plug-in still there, and delete it if so.
