Hello,
I am a university student, and I am trying to prepare a keynote presentation for one of my classes. I am a recent switcher, and I would like to try something new and use keynote . My presentation involves a lot of data that I have calculated in excel using parallels. Can you import graphs directly into keynote without having to use the keynote table feature to create a graph? My graphs need to show the R^2 values and equations calculated in excel. I know this may not be possible through the parallels-office setup but can you do this using the office mac software? Also does keynote have a scatter plot graph or trendline function?
I currently don't have office 2004 and have been trying to wait until it is UB, but if it can fulfill my needs, it may push me to buy it.
any info is greatly appreciated.
thanks!

I haven't used Keynote but one option, if necessary, would be to take a screen shot of your Excel graph and insert that into the presentation.

The graphing (charting) functions in Keynote are very basic, made more for business presentations than scientific data. Your best bet is to export the Excel graph as a JPEG or PNG, then import that into Keynote.

There may be a better way but this does woek.
Set the print area and click on print. Then instead of clicking on ok click on save as a pdf. Which will then give you a pdf of your graph. You may be able to take that directly into keynote. If not it shouldn't be too hard to convert that to a jpeg. Either through save as or graphics converter, which you probably have preinstalled.
Let me know how you get on

Just open your graph and zoom in to fit it to as much of the screen as possible. Press command-control-shift 4 and drag the crosshairs to capture the graph to the clipboard, paste into keynote slide. Use sizing and masking tools to crop the image to the desired viewing area.

After pllaying around with it a bit, I found that if I copy and pasted the excel graph into a powerpoint slide, I could save it as an jpeg, gif ect. I dont know if this is the most efficient way to do things, but it seems to be working. This is all kind of one big experiment. I am new to macs, keynote, office 2004 so the entire process has been quite slow. Thanks again to those who have taken the time to answer my questions, it is really appreciated
In regards to another problem I have encountered while doing my project. How do you insert a greek symbol like delta, theta ect... into an excel cell in office 2004? Its not in the formatting palette, or under the format>insert>symbol menu like I am use to in office xp... I am confused

Show the Formatting palette and select the Symbol font, then type away:
An alternative way of doing this is to temporarily switch to the Greek keyboard which lets you type greek letters in the same font you typically use (assuming that font includes greek characters). Activate the Greek keyboard in the System Preferences>International>Input Menu pane.
While there, also turn on the Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer. The Character palette can be used for finding and inserting any character. Keyboard viewer shows you what characters will be input when pressing option/option-shift:
To access these, use the Flag icon (the Input Menu) that will appear in the menubar:
