I have some shows that I pulled off my replay TV 5040 and they are in MPEG2 muxed format. I understand that I need to convert the shows to another format if I want to use it on iDVD. But what format does idvd convert it to in order for regular stand alone players to play it?

What I'm trying to figure out is if I were to convert it to h264 then drop it into idvd - the program reconverts it and expands it (so some format that I'm not sure of). I'm trying to limit loss of quality on import and at the same time limit the size of the file idvd converts it to so I could put more shows on one disc. Any suggestions on format prior to importing into idvd (h264, plain demuxing, other) and anything I can choose in idvd to be able to more shows on one disc.
