I have found at least 4 apps that just stop responding, and after a reboot work well. Is there a way to track them down and kill them so I can just restart the app? Already tried looking for them in the Activity Monitor but they are not there. Mac The Ripper is one such app (and before someone jumps on me for pirating, I am using it to rip movies that I own to a media server for my home entertainment system).

Thanks!

They should be in the Activity Monitor. Look under "All Processes." If not, go to the Terminal, type in "top -u" and find the corresponding ID number. Then on a new prompt, do "kill -9 ID#"

Are all those apps that you can not relaunch again PowerPC binaries (Get Info on them in Finder if you don't know)?

The idea behind TETENAL's question is that if they are all PowerPC-only applications, then possibly Rosetta has locked up. Rosetta is the layer within OS X that translates all PowerPC-only programs into the Intel processors' language.

The only way to sensibly kill and restart the Rosetta environment is to reboot the computer.

Make sure you are using the latest version of Mac OS X (currently 10.4.8), as Apple have recently added great performance and stability enhancements to Rosetta, especially in 10.4.8.
