Okay, please someone help me out here!

I see that there are at least a dozen posts about this in the past, but none seems to solve the problem...

Got a new broadband account / ISP last night, through Orange - the moblie phone company in the UK. My Brother foolishly reset the router *as* I was downloading an email from my personal email account. (I have my own website and webmail) So that messed up Entourage - but I assumed only temporarily...

Upon morning when I tried to send an email the following error comes up:

Mail error. The server did not understand the request.
Error: 5554

After searching around, I have discovered it's either my smtp settings are wrong, which isn't really possible as I have been using those settings for 3 years with no problems...

Or my ISP Orange is being finickity about my IP address and refusing to allow me to send emails through their default port...

Now I can send and receive mail using my Gmail account - but I guess as it has its own specific smtp port, it isn't adversly affected by the ISP. So it can't be Entourage (I hope) I even tried my account details in Mail and the same problem occured.

I have tried rebuilding the database of Entourage by holding Option down whilst opening the application and repairing permissions... No avail.

I am unsure if this is just my computer or Entourage, affected by the router being reset, Entourage being crap, throwing up rubbish errors, but it's very irritating and time consuming to be using my webmail for sending things and Entourage for receiving!

The Orange site is useless - the support is pitiful. But I guess I should just call Orange - it's not cheap though! So if anyone has any other ideas to try, please post away!

Crisis averted....

Anyway, found that if I used Port 587 and verified it, it works.... Apparently ISPs rarely block this port...

(Damn you Orange...)

But I feel ultra geeky! Want to shout PORT 587 on the rooftops! ; )

P.S. Sorry for filling the MacNN forum with a superfluous thread... ; (

Well done, Lamkins! And though no-one answered, hopefully if anyone else has the same problem in the future, your wise words will make them splooge their pants in delight.
