I have the pre-installed DVD Player on my Macbook. It is called "DVD Player." Is there any better DVD player for mac os x which is free? I do not like this one at all. It rewinds very slowly and has no options.

VLC plays DVDs, but it's not better than the built-in DVD Player in my opinion.

What options are you looking for?

Well, there is the open source VLC. But that's about it, as far as DVD Players for the Mac.

I think the built in one is just fine.

What specifically are you looking for? What specific problems are you having?

It doesnt rewind fast or fastfoward quickly. Is there any way you can speed it up?

Click the rewind and fast forward buttons again, it gets faster with each click.

If you push the rewind/fast forward button again, it speeds up, by double. It goes 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x.

32x ought to be fast enough, don't you think?

It defaults to 4x, and you can also set the default scan rate by choosing one under "Scan Rate," under the "Controls" menu.

On mine the rewing and fastfoward button are just skipping to the next chapter. I click the buttons on the gray remote. Is there another buttone? And when I click the forwarding button on the top again it doesnt do anything.

I don't have a DVD handy, so I can't talk you through it, but take a look at the DVD Player Help.

Scanning through a movie quickly
You can scan rapidly through a scene using the Controller, the Controls menu, or the keyboard. If a movie has chapters, you can skip from one chapter to another quickly.

Press and hold the Next Chapter or Previous Chapter button on the Controller to scan forward or backward. Release the button to play the movie.
If you use the Controls menu or keyboard shortcuts to start scanning, press the Space bar when you want to stop scanning and play the movie.

To increase the scan rate, choose Controls > Scan Rate and choose a speed from the list.
If you scan using the Controller, you can click the Next Chapter or Previous Chapter buttons repeatedly to cycle through the scanning speeds.

To skip to the next or previous chapter, you can click the buttons on the Controller, choose Go > Previous Chapter or Next Chapter, or use the Right and Left Arrow keys on your keyboard.
You can also use the Controller to watch a scene in slow motion or step through the movie frame by frame.

Perian is very similar to ffdshow but only for playback - for postprocessing I only know the options QuicktimePro offers.
