Please help out a semi-n00b!

I want to use my AOL mail with the most current OSX Mail: 2.2.1 - BUT! The only guide I found a few unofficial guides online, but those still have bigs to work out. Is it still not possible to send mail using Mail? As much as I want to use the application, I dont want to just recieve mail, and I'll continue using the AOL.com proxy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You absolutely can send mail using those settings. That's exactly how my account is set up.

more than likely your ISP is blocking port 587. A lot of ISPs insist that you use their SMTP (outbound mail server). This allows them to throttle email volume to make sure that you're not running a spambot in your basement.

Your ISP would have instructions on how to use their SMTP server but any POP (incoming email) server of your choice. Off course, you can set your return email address to xxx@aol.com so your email recipients are none the wiser.

How would one go about changing the ISP settings?

Your ISP will have an outgoing SMTP server among its offerings, most likely it is smtp.yourisp.com. Stick that in your account options in Mail.app and you should be fine. Take a look at your ISP's FAQs on their website and the address should be there.
