Hi, I am a new Mac user and wanted to know if you need to purchase '.Mac' to use iChat?
If this is the case then I think that's ridiculous... I hope I didnt buy a system for £2,000 only to find that I have to buy software to use ichat.

No, you don't have to pay for .Mac to use iChat. You can either create a 60-days .Mac free trial account. Everything will expire after 60 days except for the iChat access. Or you can create an AIM account at AOL and use that. Your choice; both is free.
