I am curious about Front Row since I don't have it. But eventually will have it.

Mainly my question is about video playback. Can I playback videos of my own? Do they have to be iTunes videos? Or can I say rip a DVD into a file and view that on my TV through Front Row?

I recall seeing a screenshot (Well, photograph) of someone's setup with Front Row displayed on the screen and it was showing some .AVI files that were obviously ripped by someone and not purchased so I am assuming it can play other files. But I'm curious of the specifics.

Having limited knowledge of this because I never used it much here's how I remember it.

Front Row uses the Quicktime engine to run movies. this means if you have dvix or Flip4Mac installed it also uses those to play your movies. It should play anything that is in the Movies folder or your itunes videos.

Frontrow will NOT, however, play video_ts folders (ripped dvds), unless you modify it with an apple script. Google for more info.

Ca$h is correct. Apple doesn't like ripped DVDs, but AppleScript does.

Well, I don't "rip" the DVD's folder-wise. I rip them into video files to save space. But I see what you are saying.
