Hi! Tonight I was using OS X's Calculator and I needed to update the currency conversion rate list. I clicked on the appropriate button but instead of seeing the list of the currencies that were updated, I was presented with an empty window, which was wider than usual.

I clicked OK (the only choice) and when I wanted to select the currency from the drop-down menus, I found that the names were surrounded by a lot of empty space. Ex:

and when I released the mouse, the name I selected didn't appear in the menu. Doing the conversion anyway resulted in a strange number, even thou the "Recent conversion" menu displayed the right currencies (with the same white space around the name).

I deleted the corresponding .plist file and upon reopening Calculator, it created a new one by default and it worked (albeit with outdated rates). I updated again and got he same results. Any idea?

Thank you!

I noticed this the other day too (strange because I hadn't used the currency converter since I got my Macbook). No idea how to fix it, but it didn't bother me because I normally just use Google to give me a conversion.

I've got something similar.

Lots of empty space to the left of the currency names. (None to the right, though.)

Despite the ugly appearance, conversions are working fine, here.

Use TextEdit to edit the .plist in ~/LibraryApplication Support/Calculator

You need to Find/Replace all the extra spaces. It should be <string>Euro</string> instead of having tons of spaces before and after Euro (and the other currency).

You can do this with two Find/Replace because the exta space before & after are uniform across all currencies.

It's very strange how we've all got this bug, especially as I never used the converter on this Macbook before. I had the error the first time I used it. You'd think it would take a few uses for it to become corrupt.
