I have a local network with two computers - an Intel iMac and a desktop mac with RAIDed volumes - both running OS X 10.4 Workstation. I would like for the iMac to be able to make it's backups to the RAIDed volumes on the desktop Mac, but I can't get Backup to work. I try using the Network destination, but it says that I do not have permission to the Backup folder of Network (which doesn't exist). When I try using a normal mounted AFP share, I get the error in Backup that 'You do not have permission to back up to the "backup" folder on "Network".'
Am I missing something here? I have write access to the shares, and I can't figure out how to make this work. I was using NFS to automount the shares as a local folder, but I had too many problems with the shares not working. I had to reboot the NFS client machine about twice a week or the shares would quit.
[Edit: I just noticed in Finder that I don't actually have write access - it says the System owns the share even though on the source machine it has different permissions]
Also, does anybody know why some shares are persistent under the Network folder in Finder and others are not?
Thanks in advance,
Brad
