I have a powerbook and external harddrive. The amount of music I have is quite overwhelming but for various reasons it must all be kept. Itunes craps out on me and doesn't have the tagging and organization options I would like. Does anyone have a solution for managing their large music collection?

Out of curiosity, What do you need beside : Name; Artist: Album Artist; Album; Grouping; Composer; Genre; Lenght; Track Number; Disc Number; BPM; Kind; Size; Bitrate; Sample Rate; Format; Rating; Artwork; Lyrics?

20,000 song is extreme. You can build different iTunes libraries, that would probably be more easy to manage and help the performance of iTunes.

I have a library for "Comedy"
a library for "podcasts"
and a library for "music"
There is no genre mix-up that way.
