I got a new video ipod for christmas and im dying to see what the movie quality is like. Ive downloaded Handbrake and Macthe Ripper and i prefer Handbrake, i then went off and bought Quicktime Pro, after being told after i get this i should be sorted. Its still not working though, i have movies in both .mov files and .m4v - the latter has an itunes logo. But even after waiting hours for quicktime to export my movie itunes wont let me drag it into my library, i cant import it either. Its driving me crazy!! Any help on the matter would be hugely appreciated, im currently using my macBook.

You would not have needed to purchase QuickTime Pro. Handbrake works fine. To import movies into your iTunes library just drag them onto the iTunes window or the iTunes icon in the Dock. If you want to make sure the movie plays on an iPod use File->Export->Movie to iPod on QuickTime Pro or the respective setting in Handbrake. iTunes plays all movies that QuickTime can play (regardless of whether they are playable on an iPod or not).

In that case you would have to tell us where your iTunes library is, how the privileges are set for it currently, and what you changed.

I think if it accepts audio files but not movies, then the problem is probably not privileges.

All my music is in the music folder, inside a sub folder called itunes music

Under ownership and permissions for the music folder it says i can 'Read & Write', then under details it says the owner is marcwhelan and beside access it says 'Read & Write', its the same for group and others.

I dont think i changed too much, thats all that it says and i dont remember changing it, ive tried moving the movie files into these folders and trying to open them with itunes but nothing happens. I can watch them under the preview tab when i click 'get info' so the films are definately there its just itunes wont let me import them.

Im running out of ideas!

I had some troubles when I used the import feature. So I used the dropdown menu (can't remember which one, not at the mac now), and clicked on "add to library". Then selected the movie and all was well. Maybe that would work for you?

Whelo10 -- open the movie folder within iTunes (on the left side). Then, click on File, then Add to Library. You will get a chance to select what you want to add. That's all there is to it. Works great for me!

But you don't need the full version of Quicktime to play movies . . .
