Hopefully some of you will find this useful. I was noticing that my logins were very slow on my MBP C2D and that update_prebinding was chewing away at my CPU. After searching online I posted in a similar thread on the macosxhints forum and we eventually figured out that the problem was caused by Unsanity's Application Enhancer (version 2.0.2, latest as of this post) which will force update_prebinding to be run on every login. To fix it you have to uninstall it. Here's a link to the thread:

Yeah. Definately stay away from that stuff if you value performance and stability in your applications.

RapidWeaver also has issues with AE -- I think it's their first FAQ in the troubleshooting section -- "Are you using AE? Then, uninstall it."

AE gets a lot of very unjustified hate from app devs... however, it also gets a bit of justified hate, so ymmv.

The reason for the hate for AE is because of users that e-mail developers about really strange problems they've had with their software, sometimes using strong and/or abusive language, and then the problems turn out to come from some hack that the user has installed and not any fault of the developer. Then they ask "well, when will you fix this?" as if it's the developer's responsibility to make sure his app is compatible with every possible hack that some guy could cook up.
It's even more irritating when you realize that it's possible for users to just post negative reviews on VersionTracker and/or MacUpdate without contacting the developer first, so now you've got a bunch of reviews for your program that look like "This program is worthless!! it doesn't work!!!" because of some hack...

As mentioned in the linked thread, this is their explanation:
Hi,
Application Enhancer does this as a way to fix problems with Rosetta. We plan to make it optional in a future version.
Thanks!
Sincerely yours,
Brian - Unsanity
