My external 200GB Drive is slowly failing.. I have an external DVDRW Drive that id like to back everything up to about 25 or 30 DVD's

Is there any software out there that will allow me to back up my external drive to DVD preferably free or opensource

Google has turned up nothing

Yes, if you have a .Mac membership. Try out this program: SmartBackup. It's not free but it does the trick.

In addition, get yourself another external drive enclosure and a 200 GB hard drive to drop in it. That way you can back up your data the right way (25-30 DVDs? I wouldn't go there) and replace the failing unit. If you can afford it, get two drives--one for everyday use and one for periodic backups.

SuperDuper. There is a free version as well as one that has more features but is still priced right.

There are 2 that I use -- EMC Retrospect for Macintosh (formerly Dantz Retrospect) and Lacie SilverKeeper. The latter one is free.

Retrospect is fully-featured but the interface leaves a lot to be desired (then again, what backup software is both powerful AND easy to use?). I've established a backup cycle that works with my resources and fits my needs. For a multi-Mac (or PC) environment, it works very, very well. I use SilverKeeper for my more simple backup needs (since backup + restore is much simpler).

You could use Toast, it comes with Déjà Vu, very good IMO!
Not free, but worth.

Considering the original poster doesn't have .Mac, they can't really stick with Backup now, can they? I was merely offering a less expensive alternative.

I have used ChronoSync for the last few years and it has worked brilliantly. Has a large number of options and a scheduler. I run it about once a week backing up to an external hard drive, it normally only takes a couple of minutes to copy any modified files.
