Hi I just have a quick question, I've gotten used to using Tabbed Browsing in Firefox but as the norm I am still hooked on Safari despite it's imperfections. Sometimes I think that's what makes us want to continue using certain apps because they are challenging. Anyway here's my situation, unlike Firefox, Safari will not open a new tab automatically, it keeps opening new pages in the same tab. I found the only way to do this is to hold down the Command key while surfing to a new web page. Is this the only way? Is there a way it would do it automatically?
Sorry if this has been brough up before, I searched the forum but didn't get much help.

I use the add-on SafariStand to force it to open in a new tab

Do you want every clicked link to open a new tab? This is not the normal behaviour in either Firefox or Safari. In Safari you can turn on tabbed browsing and then decide which keystroke you want to open a link in a new tab, but not simple clicking.

I will try SafariStand. Sorry but I guess I got a bit confused. When I use Firefox for an extensive amount of time I will noticed a bunch of open tabs that I did not intentionally create so I figured it was autmatically creating them with every link from my Bookmarks that I click on. Now play with it I see that it's not acutally doing that but I would like tabs to open without having to Control click.

It sounds like you want links that would normally open a new window to open a new tab instead, correct?

If this is the case, you can select this in the 'Tabs' bit of the prefs in each application.

No, and I apologize for the confusion. I have been a Mac User for about 10 years now and believe it or not I just started using tabs and seeing how valuable this feature is but I haven't been certain how to control how they work. What I wanted to do was simply use one browser window and as I click on links in the Bookmarks bar and a new tab created automatically from that link. I didn't realize I had to hold down Control to create the tab. Haxies to do it automatically are okay but they get disabled when Apple sends new software updates.
Thanks all for your help and the quick responses.

The following might be of some help. If you gather a number of bookmarks within one folder in the Bookmarks bar (e.g. a number of commonly-used bookmarks), then when you click on this 'folder' in the bookmarks bar, you will see an option to 'Open all in tabs'. This will bring up all of the pages within that folder in separate tabs.

I do this for all my regular web sites (the ones I want to see every time I open my browser) so they all come up in different tabs in one go. Maybe this is something like you would like to do. HTH.

WOW!! That was a great suggestion, I never knew that. I use the same bookmarks everyday and this is just what I needed. Thanks for your help!

If you Command-click a bookmark collection in the bookmarks bar, it will open them all in tabs too. It's much faster then bringing up the popup menu and selecting "Open in Tabs." I use it all the time.

You can set this as the default behavior for a specific collection in the Bookmarks window by clicking the Auto-Click checkbox. Command-clicking in this case will let you bring up the popup menu if you want to go to a particular site.

SafariStand helps with all those hyperlinks you want to open in a new window/tab. It just does it automatically like other browsers let you set in preferences.

Yes, I just tried out SafariStand. Like it as well as the gathering all my everyday bookmarks in one folder and opening them all at once. Both options do more than what I was expecting. Once again, thanks for all of your responses, I wasn't expecting so much help so fast. Happy new year!
