Let us know which version of Safari and Mac OS X are you running.

Is it the first time you try to open Safari or were you able to do it before?

Well, let's try deleting Safari's Preferences file. Go to your Home folder (the one with your user's name) and look for Library folder, then inside Library Folder look for Preferences folder, search and delete the file named com.apple.Safari.plist

Where to look for the file… -AMB being my Home user folder, yours'll have a different name-

How to delete the file… -or just drag it to the Trash icon in the Dock-

Hope this helps.

Weird, I would try to repair permissions onto your hard disk, but if Disk Utility doesn't open I guess you would download the free Onyx app and give it a try, it can repair permissions, besides being able to run maintenance actions.

OnyX 1.7.8b2 - MacUpdate

First of all reboot.

And by the way, how do you post in here if you can't open your browser?

Boot from CD, run Disk Utility.

If you can still open TextEdit, take a look at Home/Library/Logs/CrashReporter and see if you can find any common traits in the crashes.

To download using the Terminal, you can use "curl". Full command for downloading OnyX:
"curl http://www.titanium.free.fr/dl/OnyX.dmg -o OnyX.dmg".

Boot from the system DVD, open Disk Utility and repair the disk until it says the drive is OK. Then do an Archive & Install of the operating system.

That's why I said you open Disk Utility when booted from the system DVD. If you don't have it, then you are sadly out of luck. Get it.

I did not intend to sound snotty. I was just pointing out that you will need the system/software restore DVD to continue troubleshooting.

Even a refurbished Mac must have come with a system restore CD or DVD. Maybe you have another look into the box if you still have it.

Something is seriously wrong with your Mac. Either your hard disk is dying (which you would check with Disk Utility when booting from the system DVD) or the system is seriously messed up (which you would check by reinstalling it cleanly with an Archive & Install). If both wouldn't help there might be another defect even.

If you can't find the system restore CD/DVD then it's probably best if you bring your iBook into an Apple store if you have on nearby and ask there what you could do.

LOL, I feel like such an inexperienced newcomer… Nevertheless, you like the white and baby blue UI, kinda Siniristilippu-alike
