Ok, so I have plugged my guitar in the input hole (the one thats right beside the headphone hole right?), and I have went to system preferences and changed the input to "line in". When I play my guitar, I can't hear anything on my head phones but the sound bar reacts to it and goes up each time I pick a string.

So I go into GarageBand, make a new track, and choose "real intrument". And I try recording and all, but the input won't work and its still picking up sound from the buil in mic. Its getting kind of frustrating hehe.

So does anyone know how to record your electric guitar in GarageBand?

Any help would be highly appriciated. Thanks!

Double-click the track name, make sure that the input is set to line-in and "monitor" is set to on.

One more thing. Electric guitars are usually mono, while the mic input on your Mac is in stereo, so with the default settings you'll only hear from one side. Change which side it should take the input from to fix it.

Corrections: I believe you first need to go to your system settings -> sound settings, and make sure the line-in is selected there first.
