I have noticed that when i try to watch a lot of videos off of internet sites on my macbook they wont play. At first a puzzle piece was at the top pf the video area and it said a plugin was needed that was not supported by safari or firefox and now when i try and watch them it's just blank where the video should be...does anyone have any idea what im talking about or know how i can get the videos to play?
p.s. im not sure if this question belongs in this category, so if it doesnt dont be pissed. thanks.

If you use Firefox as your browser you could get an extension called "Video Downloader" and use that to access the videos. There is another extension called "Unplug" which makes it possible to download videos from many sites, to watch offline.

Sites that use Windows Media Video streaming are not well supported on the Mac.
Make sure that you have the latest version of Flip4Mac installed and hope for the best. It's handling of streaming video is pretty poor.
Some call it Mac marginalization, I say that Apple has an obligation to step in and do something to improve compatibility...

With Flip4Mac you may need to change the "Create Streaming Movies" preference for it to work on some sites. Many of the streaming issues are related to web back-end and coding specific to Windows. Some use plugin "sniffers" which don't acknowledge Flip4Mac, which is a Quicktime component. Some use types of playlists not supported on the Mac. Flip4Mac is trying to work out these compatibility issues but many of the issues are in the hands of web developers.

Hi Craig,
Has any thought been given to severing the F4M browser plugin from Quicktime?
Would that make it easier for it to mimic the WIndows plugin in terms of plugin detection?
Glad to see you're monitoring the other Mac forums while the F4M forum is down.

System Preferences -> Flip4MacWMV -> Movie
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help with the Jaguars.com movies that you mentioned...
I'll considering holding impromptu 'classes' at the local Apple Store called "Things you can't do on a Mac"
I'll ad this item to the curriculum...
